Brewfest Dilemma…

I just finished reading an article in the Coloradoan that was talking about the well know Brewfest that takes place in Old Town Fort Collins. It seems that many of the business owners in the area end up closing for the weekend because there are too many overly-intoxicated patrons that end up being a nuisance to the business owners in old town. So then, being a business owner, I am conflicted on what action should be taken? It is a great drive for the businesses that were there as the article said there were 15,000 people that attend the festival. That number is a big number of people that would then be out looking to shop/et/etc. A great business boom. But from what the owners have expressed (about thee intoxication levels of many of the patrons) it wasn’t even worth being open for the weekend, having to close and not even get the regular revenue from the weekend, let alone the extra revenue from the extra amount of people there.
So trying to see a clear answer is hard. I read a post from a blogger that suggested that the event be moved to the CSU football stadium parking lot. I think that this is a brilliant idea. It will allow more people to attend, and more vendors to attend as well. Also leaving all of the shops open in old town, and far enough away, that seemingly only the sober ones will make it there.
What do you all think, especially among the the locals that have seen this or expirenced the positive or negative aspects? Ideas for a resolution?
