According to the Colorado Department of Education, Poudre School District students are No. 1 in the 2011 Colorado State Assessment Program tests in third to tenth grade reading, writing, and math.

Reading – 10.6% higher; Writing – 12% higher; Math 11.75% higher

Moving Truck Woes

My heart goes out to the folks who sold their house and are moving out of state. They are on a budget so decided to rent a moving truck, load it themselves, and pull their car behind.

It was a lot of work but all went well. Finally the truck was loaded, the car was on the trailer hitched to the back, and the kids were in the cab. Then it happened. They got on I-25 and the steering wheel started to shake. It got worse the faster they drove. Forty miles an hour and he could hardly keep the truck on the road.

Back to to the truck rental office they went. Man, I sure hope they get a big deduction on the cost of that truck because they have to move all their stuff to a different truck. They are bone tired, not to mention the extra time it will take. Lesson learned – test drive the rental truck on the highway BEFORE loading it up!

House Prices and Interest Rates Low

House prices are low, meaning there are good bargains out there for home buyers, either to live in or as an investment. Pre-foreclosures, short sales, and bank owned properties, called REO's, are plentiful and some have been fixed up by the banks, including new carpet and paint, and are ready to move in.

Interest rates are still well under 5% and there are good financing packages available, particularly for first time home buyers, including money for down payment assistance for qualified buyers.

Drop in home values means good news for home buyers. Large homes at rock bottom prices!

Each time economic data is released or major events happen anywhere in the world, markets react in some sort of way. Lately, markets have been somewhat subdued as the reports have been mixed with both good and not so good data, although it has been positive for mortgage rates which keep going lower.

Remodeling Market Index Reaches Highest Level in Four Years

RISMEDIA, May 2, 2011—According to the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Remodeling Market Index (RMI), the remodeling market is heading into recovery with an increase to 46.5 in the first quarter of 2011 from 41.5 in the fourth quarter of 2010. This marks the highest level for the RMI since the fourth quarter of 2006.
